Feestelijke opening op 9 september

We talk a lot about newcomers. But how often do we actually meet them? Because before we form an opinion about one another, something else is needed: that we see each other.

In a time when the debate surrounding newcomers is becoming increasingly polarized, 'Ik zie jou!' does something very simple, yet so powerful: bringing together people who would otherwise not easily meet. Last summer, ten Haarlem residents and newcomers met based on what they share. A passion, a dream, a job, or something else that connects them. What began as a meeting between strangers quickly became a moving encounter between two beautiful people.

We captured those encounters in late July in powerful portraits, videos, and stories. We will present the result with justifiable pride this coming September 9 in the center of Haarlem. The exhibition will be on view until October 6 at two locations on Grote Houtstraat and Stationsplein.

Especially at a time when the conversation about newcomers often revolves around opinions and differences, these organizations demonstrate that genuine encounter is still possible.

'I See You!' is touring the Netherlands and was previously shown in Zaanstad, Den Helder, and Hoorn.

More than a museum

The organization of 'Ik zie jou!' is in the hands of the Museum of Humanity based in Zaandam. The organization brings together portraits and stories of people from all over the world. Through exhibitions, workshops, and projects, the foundation demonstrates that every human being is valuable—vulnerable, powerful, and human—and thereby fosters connection and understanding, both locally and internationally. Previously, the successful exhibition ‘Ik zie jou!’ featuring newcomers took place in Zaanstad, Den Helder, and Hoorn. Following Haarlem, other cities will follow, always in collaboration with the municipality, the COA, Ukrainian reception centers, businesses, and civil society organizations.

The Museum of Humanity is not just any museum; we connect people all over the world through stories and portraits. With the mission to combat polarization and show that every human being is a masterpiece, we organize not only exhibitions but also educational programs and business training.
