About Museum of Humanity

The Museum of Humanity organizes pop-up exhibitions that showcase humanity as a collection of "masterpieces." These exhibitions encourage people to truly see one another and discover that everyone shares the same fundamental needs—fostering a world in which every individual feels seen.

The museum was founded in 2001, inspired by a dream photographer Ruben Timman had about a dilapidated museum—a metaphor for the state of the world and the human condition. Since then, Ruben and his team have collected nearly nine thousand portraits of people from across the globe, all captured against a black backdrop to emphasize equality.

Since 2019, thousands of people have visited the museum in Zaandam as well as various pop-up exhibitions. Furthermore, thousands of students have participated in workshops through the "School of Humanity," and "Humanity at Work" offers team-building days for corporate organizations. These initiatives are supported in part by "Dreambuilders"—the foundation’s business network, which now counts dozens of members.
